s shifter series This book deals with a wounded and powerful dragon shifter who finds unexpected love Ramsey Gallagher is 2 thousand years old He is a mighty dragon shifter who has no idea of his heritage He was found lost in ancient Italy by an elderly couple and adopted But his life has never been easy It is now the 21st century and Ramsey is trying to recover from a vicious battle with another dragon shifter from another dimension who tried to take over Earth After the battle, Ramsey lost his ability to shift and many of his other magical abilities He deeply mourns the loss and particularly wants to be able to shift again When he hears of an archaeological find near the spot where he was found lost as a child he is galvanized to talk to the lead archaeologist Ramsey wants to discover if there is a connection to his missing past and the possibility of a clue to return his powers What he finds is a surprisingly attractive female doctor named Madison Dartmoor But before he can track her down at a conference he discovers her lecture is cut short and she is being abducted Ramsey saves her and they find a real connection But someone wants the good doctor and they are willing to kill to get her This story had a lot of twists and turns They travel to the states, Italy, and Peru The action is non stop but so is their passion I liked how this book was centered on the relationship between Madison and Ramsey Ramsey is troubled by his diminished powers but he can sometimes manipulate people s thoughts like the Jedi mind trick and although he does this for Madison s own good That was one section of the story I had a little trouble with Madison is spunky and driven and the 2 main characters had a real chemistry but I did feel it was pretty quick that she fell under his spell and trusted him I think I would have liked a littleresistance from her but who wouldn t be swept away by such a handsome rescuer And Ramsey is the real show stopper in this story I was fascinated by his powers and history Would have liked to knowabout his past and his secret Bat Cave like fortress The thrilling action felt a little like an Indiana Jones movie a lot of adventure, intrigue and good old backstabbing Definitely 1 of my favs in the series High adventure, steamy passion, and a powerful and hunky hero make this an exhilarating read Reviewed by Steph from the Are there ones that you d recommend This review was originally posted on Book Binge by Renee I was excited to find this story, because I love to read about dragons, either the magical variety shapeshifters or the natural ones that are really big, intelligent lizards However, the only way I really knew this story was about dragons was in the title During the first few pages, I decided it really knew this story was about dragons was in the title During the first few pages, I decided it was mistitled, or possibly I was reading about a clan of the dragon group, since the hero stalks a prostitute and mind rapes her, while he does a vampire routine on her neck It started out with the hero yes, I am deliberately lowering him from Hero to hero as I felt he was not deserving of the accolade , who is standing in the lobby watching for Dr Dartmoor , as he wants to knowabout the dig and the find that is to be presented When he watches a beautiful woman cross the lobby, he is attracted, and the reading audience knows she is of course the doctor He had to be told, via the Surprise when she appears on stage Obviously he didn t read the program with her biographical information, including degrees, and most likely, a photo However, I loved the premise of an ancient find in a European setting, which not only is going to be presented to an international audience, but brings with it sneaky guys and random spies We get hints from the beginning that Ramsey Gallagher, the male lead, is linked to her find, or at least feels he might be, but Dr Madison Dartmoor refuses to deliver information about her find, citing as a reason the attack on her dig.Right there, I nearly put the book down view spoiler Actually I did, but picked it back up to see where it would go from that less than illustrious beginning Some readers might wonder why I feel that way, but to me, it would have madesense to tell the audience there was danger, and share at least some information on the find and her conclusions and hypothesis, or at the very least, cancel the presentation, not just come wimpily in and say fooled ya hide spoiler I could never warm up to the main characters Ramsey was a creepy vampire no matter what the story called him who used his weak mental powers to manipulate people to get what he wanted It was evenirritating, and degrading to the female audience, that the only ones he seemed able to glamour were the weaker sex Madison was a young, impressionable woman whose age we never really know, who lets Ramsey take over and use his psychic ability to sway her decisions Add to that the way she had let her entire life be scripted by her mentor, Cameron, who blows into the picture as a controlling father figure, controlling both the money and the decisions on how the dig will be handled Perhaps that was why she was so passive and let Ramsey control her she was used to that but it just felt like she was a stick figure, thrown in so we had a female lead, someone to participate in the random sex acts as they gallop across the globe view spoiler Somewhere around the hotel scene where she lets him order her out of sight while he cleans up the mess from the second attack by the men who he had noticed watching her when he first spotted her, I gave up reading it as a dragon story and just decided to finish it to see where it went It ended as it began less than satisfactorily, as they bumbled across 3 continents looking for ancient artifacts, her to establish herself, him to, as the cover says find clues to his past A major detail here if she had really been an archaeologist, she would not have run away just because the dig was blown up She would have gone right back and starting digging and cataloguing hide spoiler So why did I rate it a 3 star I liked the idea, I liked the location changes, and I liked the injured hero idea Givenspace to build the characters, delete the sex scenes, and this could be a really good book note I read this in 11 5 2012, and again 10 15 2016 My opinions didn t change although I thought after 4 years it might be easier to read Nope Ramsey Gallagher is a dragon shifter who is unable to shift He meets Dr Madison Dartmoor when he strives to determine what she has found about his mysterious people but he doesn t anticipate the attraction that he will feel for her There seem to be unsavory characters who want to prevent her from revealing any of the information or artifacts that she is retrieving from an archeological dig site and Madison reluctantly succumbs to Ramsey s odd insistence upon rituals that she isn t comfortable Ramsey Gallagher is a dragon shifter who is unable to shift He meets Dr Madison Dartmoor when he strives to determine what she has found about his wants A lot of awkward situations that don t seem to flow easily into solutions make the action flow erratically A good premise but a little difficult to establish rapport with the characters The relationship between the pair was too forced and the pairing made little sense The female MC is suppose to be an intelligent woman but around the male MC, she become quite stupid which is depressing The story has potential but it is lacking in some thing to pull it all together round it out In the end, I found the book annoying and hard to get through because it lacked elements to keep me he came from He is made aware of an archaeological dig occurring in the part of Italy where he was found as a wee When he finds out that Dr Dartmoor, who is heading up the dig, will be presenting some preliminary findings at a conference in Las Vegas, well let s just say he is so there Little does he know that this Dr Dartmoor is Ms Madison Dartmoor and that she is drop dead gorgeous High jinx ensue along with travel through the States, Italy and Peru mixed in with adventure All of this gives this story the makings fast paced and interesting story It s a shame that I just didn t connect with it.Even though Ramsay was introduced in Rebecca s Moon series, this is supposed to be a standalone book But I did feel as though I was missing some critical information about Ramsay now and again We do find out what his deal is and by that I mean most of his story but we only learn that at the very end of the book And by then, it was just too late for me Ramsay just didn t show enough warmth or personality for me to be able to connect with him Part of that is due to his dialogue or lack thereof I LOVE reading the dialogue in a book The banter between characters, the reactions to what is said or seen, the way things are said and not said It trills me I look forward to that inevitable part of a romance book where the hero and heroine will just talk for a while Get to know each other s back story Each other s quirks and habits Each other s hopes and desires Each other s passions I found in this book that the dialogue was very short and almost choppy I was not able to get any feel for the characters from their dialogue Madison certainly didn t get much out of what Ramsay had to say Actually, I m kind of surprised Madison connected with him at all with all his secrecy and strange behavior And even when she does find out the truth about him, she practically just shrugs and goes on with her day.Madison is a character with a lot of potential Orphaned when quite young, she was guided by a man who would later become her mentor And she is a star in her field But since her parent s death, she is too easily swayed by strong and opinionated men Her mentor is the one who convinced her that archaeology is the perfect career choice for her She s not even sure what she would have ended up doing if she wasn t persuaded to follow that direction Then she meets Ramsay Yes he saves her, but then she follows him a complete stranger to his house His argument I just saved you Why would I try to hurt you now Oh, okay then And there she is following him like a little puppy Okay, that is not atypical for a paranormal romance novel Often, the heroine starts off a little lost and a little too trusting And in this case, she knows she is too trusting She mentions that she has spent the majority of her life being led in directions that she would not have necessarily gone herself if truly given the choice But that s about it I think she tries to take a stand a little and that Ramsay tries to let her, but it doesn t really come across as it should I just wish Madison hadballs She is passionate and brave She can shoot a gun for goodness sake But she just didn t come across as a strong enough heroine for my liking. There a two villains in this book One we know about from the get go and the other we suspect but don t get the confirmation until near the end I didn t even feel the final confrontations with these bad guys One minute they are there, the next their gone and off Ramsay and Madison go on their merry little way It all just left me feeling a little let down. One aspect of this book that I found were well done were the parts where archaeology was discussed You can really tell that the author did her research when it came to her descriptions of archaeological stuff The methods used were well described and the ancient civilizations were well documented I really enjoyed that part of the book and felt as though I was learning something.Although the concept was good and the basis for the story was good, I felt like all the pieces for a great story were present, I just felt like there wasn t enough glue holding it all together Fans of Rebecca s work and those who have read her previous stories will most likely enjoy this book Unfortunately, I felt a little lost at times and in need ofinformation This book was interesting, but not at the same time It is set in the same world as her other series, and has a tenuous connection.I felt like the 2 main characters relationship was forced and there wasn t really any chemistry between them The most interesting aspect of the book was finding out about the history of the dragons, I am hoping there will bethere, along withinteraction between Ramsey and the Marshall s in the next books.
