~FREE ⚑ The Left Hand of Death ♒ When you ve got a problem, he s your man But when he finds himself in possession of a strange relic, he gets even trouble than he can handle His enemies want the relic, he wants the owner, and the City Watch wants him locked away for good As if that weren t enough, a mysterious woman just hired him to find a magic device that could bring the world to its kneesCould the two be related When a job turns this dangerous, whether you win or lose doesn t matter The best you can hope for is just to survive there is no interesting story, not worth the time While an interesting plot, undeveloped characters and an over all lack of concluding story lines led to this being a sadly lacking book with a lot of potential. Upon completing the book, I sat there and thought what have I just read There are a lot genres styles trying to be melded into this tale, it seems a bit steam punkish, it seems a bit crime noir and it was tapping into the fantasy elements There is nothing wrong with that and I did like the world that was created, yet somehow it just did not seem to work Anyway Whitsun is the man you go to when you want a problem fixed, only problem is the problem I see him trying to fix is the current situati Upon completing the book, I sat there and thought what have I just read There are a lot genres styles trying to be melded into this tale, it seems a bit steam punkish, it seems a bit crime noir and it was tapping into the fantasy elements There is nothing wrong with that and I did like the world that was created, yet somehow it just did not seem to work Anyway Whitsun is the man you go to when you want a problem fixed, only problem is the problem I see him trying to fix is the current situation he is in Whitsun teams up with Glustred, a local innkeeper and between the two of them they race around Sharn, getting into scrapes with a whole host of people and creatures The problem I had was as a reader, I never really understood what was going on By that I mean, I follow these two guys all around looking for a couple of artifacts and it really felt like the main character knewthan the reader Then you get to the end and it is all explained for you I hate that as I feel I have been cheated Why read the whole novel when I go to the last two or three chapters and be told what the story is all about Whitsun becomes an almost unlikable character, knows everything, always is right and has not an ounce of real emotion He maybe cool under pressure but whatever the problem he was able to get out off it and that became boring Too many life and death scenarios, too many easy exits Also Whitsun has a secret background that is never explained, has other names he is known but is never explained and I never felt I ever got to know the character Mystery is good but you needed something to understand why he behaved the way he does I wont be reading the rest of the trilogy as I was not engaged enough or care enough to discover what happens next I suspect the author read The Maltese Falcon as he wrote this book I enjoyed it, and I will try his other books. I really liked the protagonist, Whitesun, but found myself liking the story less and less as it continued I got 20 pages from the end and literally set the book down for nearly a week because I couldn t be bothered Eberron is a neat world, though.
