Dilemma In Yellow Silk is 5 in The Emperors of London series, but can be read as a stand alone I would suggest reading the series in its entirety It is an awesome series The Emperors of London , are a not win his bid to retake the thrown of Britain The Emperors of London strive to protect the unsuspecting political pawns The King s unsupecting true heirs to the throne , keep peace, keep Britain safe from those who are in cohorts for the bid for King, and protect the innocent bystanders A tall order to be sure, for along the way they not only are in danger of losing their lives but their hearts as well In this, the 5th installment, Ms Connolly, continues her tale of intrigue, danger, the need to protect the innocent, once again secrets, long hidden, will be revealed, and a fight to the end is ensured A captivating, highly anticipated, and very interesting story, with twists and turns along the way She continues her well written, very sensual tale, only in this one, the H H have known each other for years In a desperate attempt to keep the heroine safe, the hero must get them, safely, to his family in London Thus begins their hair raising, intense escape to London While, this story was not as dangerous, as the others in the series, it was a bit milder than its counterparts, in the danger department, the intrigue, made up for in abundance It wason a personal level between the H H, and their the unsuspecting secret I enjoyed the Heroine s strength, her tenacity to go forward and her desire to succeed The hero s desire to protect her at all cost, even marriage, and his determination to keep her safe to the end, recommend him as a strong and steady hero Together, they make an excellent team Be awarethere are intense, steamy sensual scenes Just, in case, that isn t your cup of teaOnce again, Ms Connolly has provided the reader with an excellent choice of reading material One in which, there is excitement, intrigue, secrets, passion, a bit of humor, inner turmoil, the strength of a family and the power of love A Georgian Historical Romance, that is exciting and adventurous Do remember, while this story, does NOT, have a any cliffhangers, it does leave the question of who is attempting to find and eliminate the true heirs to the thrown, the Old Pretenter or his enemy, the Young Pretenter The battle between the Dantworths and the Northwichs continues I can t wait to read the next installment An enjoyable and satisfying read One not to be missed Fans of the Georgian era, Historical intrigue, adventure, passion, and romance will enjoy this story A in Yellow Silk is the 5th book in the Emperors of London series by Lynne Connolly I haven t read any of the previous books and can say that this book can easily be read as a stand alone one.The story revolves around Viola Gates She is known as the daughter of of the land steward for Lord Malton, Marcus Aurelius She and Marcus were great friends when they were growing up, but when he was just 9 years old, Marcus father sent him away, one of the reasons for that being that he wanted to keep them apart Already at that age Viola knew she loved Marcus, and he also had feelings for her Being too lower class for Marcus, his father knew he had to keep them apart She rarely saw him after that, and when she did he seemed too aristocratic and very cold towards her.Marcus father like most people didn t know the truth of the matter, he was keeping Marcus from Viola thinking she was beneath him, when in actual fact she is his superior because she is the daughter of the Stuart King..one of a number of children born to him in secret Viola knows the rumours that she could be related to royalty, but she never for one minute believes them to be true When an attack takes place on her home and her father is injured, he realises that the truth has become known to one of both parties that would want Viola dead, or forced to marry Knowing this, he has no choice but to tell her the truth of her royal connections, and enlists Marcus help in getting her away to safety. There begins a fabulous story where we see how Marcus and his friends and family who rally to help, try to keep Viola safe The one particular enemy who would want to kidnap and force her to marry him is thwarted when Marcus marries Viola What is supposed to be a marriage of convenience is so muchfor both of them if only they could admit their feelings to each other Viola has never stopped loving Marcus, and even knowing his feelings aren t reciprocated, she is still thrilled to be married to him Will she stay alive long enough for their marriage to become a real one, will Marcus be able to stop her enemies in their tracks I absolutely loved this story, Marcus was the ultimate hero, willing to put his life on the line for Viola He was also an ardent lover and there are a few very passionate sex scenes between him and Viola which are rathersaucy than your usual historical romance bedroom scenes Don t worry, there s nothing kinky or debauched There was a nice balance of danger in the real world, and total freedom in the bedroom where they could both forget their worries for the time being, and it made for a great read I will definitely be reading the other books in this series and anything else that this author has written because I have just added her to my very long list of favourite authors Previously glimpses we also get of differing strands of society often with a definite small s and how they relate and react to those in the higher echelons of Society definitely with a capital S This book is no exception, opening as it does with great excitement at Haxby Hall, as the servants clean the rooms and generally prepare for the return of the Marquess of Strenshall and his family.Helping them is Viola, daughter of the Marquess land steward, and a very distant cousin to the family Of a similar age to the Marquess children, she falls between two levels of society equally at home working in the Hall and on the estate, or taking music lessons and playing hostess with the younger members of the family when they re in residence at the Hall Her particular favourite out of the latter group has always been Marcus Aurelius, Earl of Malton, the Marquess heir, even though he seems to have growndistant from her as his responsibilities in Town and on the estate have increased.Marcus return to Haxby this time, however, is complicated by the revelation that the recent fall from a horse in which Viola s father broke his ankle was no accident He and the Marquess have been guarding papers that prove Viola s true birth and her legacy as one of the legitimate daughters of James Stuart, the Old Pretender, and his first wife But now enemies of the Emperors and of the Crown are attempting to steal the papers, as well as planning to kidnap Viola in order to marry her off to one of their supporters.Viola and Marcus flee to another family property, but their enemies seem to be everywhere ahead and behind and they are forced to disguise themselves and travel to London by stage coach Naturally, I love all the historical details we got surrounding their journey and fellow passengers The drama continues in London as Marcus and Viola make plans to marry in order to assure her safety Their union is both passionate and tempestuous, with the interesting ways they find for resolving their differences making great gossip for the scandal sheets. This is most definitely my favourite out of the series so far, although I believe the next will be Julius story and I ve been looking forward to that one for a long time
