will return to Vegas once the stalker threat is over.I m disappointed I didn t enjoy thisRuby and Cliff were likable characters and dang, the man on the cover is handsome However, I am simply not a fan of twin swap stories, especially in cases like what you find in this book, where the plan hasn t been thought out at all I think we re supposed to enjoy Ruby s fish out of water shenanigans, but they just annoyed me And what was with all the secrecy anyway Nobody seems to care that Scarlett is off gallivanting about with her on off boyfriend and could easily attract the attention of the stalker Why not just be upfront about what is going on And why would it be considered safe for Ruby to pretend to be her sister when it would be so easy for her stalker to learn where Scarlett works and come after Ruby, especially since HE DOES THAT ANYWAY Unfortunately, the non credible, forced, manufactured set up of the story made it nigh on impossible to connect and engage with the story and dating the local sheriff.Cliff realizes immediately that Ruby is not Scarlett Her kiss blows him away, making him feel things he never felt for Scarlett He s wary of Ruby until he confirms her story and agrees to go along with her ruse and protect her.Cliff tries to keep things professional Earlier in his career in Reno he had fallen for a witness who used him to help the criminal who was being investigated This ruined the investigation and damaged Cliff s reputation so he doesn t want to take that chance again But his feelings for Ruby are growing quickly and he s having trouble staying away.Meanwhile, Ruby is falling hard for Cliff His protectiveness makes her feel safe and his care for her is something she s never experienced Ruby worries that by coming to Sweetheart she s put the people she s come to care about in danger Just as she and Cliff admit their connection their whole relationship is endangered by her stalker.I really liked both Ruby and Cliff Ruby is a nice person caught in a bad situation She takes the opportunity to escape Las Vegas, but she does worry about what could happen When things go bad at the end she is devastated by Cliff s actions and the attitudes of some of the townspeople I liked the way that she went out of her way to try to repair some of the damage that had occurred Cliff was a man caught in a dilemma He really liked Ruby and thetime he spent with her thehe fell for her But he was so worried about his reputation that he nearly threw away the best thing that ever happened to him I wanted to kick him, the mayor, and a bunch of the other people for the way they blamed Ruby for everything I really enjoyed the ending and seeing how the townspeople tried to make things right Ruby McPhee is on the run, to take over her sister Scarlett s life while her stalker is in jail in Las Vegas She needs to get away until the trial is over, and Scarlett is trying to reconcile again with her on again off again boyfriend, Dimitri So starts talking about going out on a date, and kisses her Cliff immediately knows that she s not Scarlett and after some skepticism and anger, he decides to help Ruby pretend to be Scarlett until her stalker is put away But when the danger finally comes to town, can everyone escape unscathed And can Cliff and Ruby ignore their attraction to one another, or are they simply meant to be I for the most part really enjoyed this small town romance I didn t realize that it was 3 in an on going series, but it definitely works as a stand alone as well The history of Sweetheart, the town Cliff lives in, was very adorable and I loved how it played into his romance with Ruby Also, the differences between her and Scarlett, and the mishaps they caused were pretty funny at times The attraction between Cliff and Ruby definitely rings true throughout the book, and I liked that this one wasn t all about the sex between two people It wasabout the falling in love part of love, than the lust factor in the equation I totally understood why Cliff was hesitant to get involved with Ruby, after having gotten involved with a witness to a crime in Reno and being burned by the relationship Plus, it ruined his standing with the police department he worked for Probably my least favorite things about this one were the selfish, flaky attitude of Scarlett, who is stringing along Cliff as a placeholder until she can be with Dimitri, and the attitudes of Cliff, his family and the other townspeople after the showdown with the stalker Yes, Scarlett made a bad decsion to go off on her own with Cliff s cousin s children, when a crazed freak was after her identical twin But it was Cliff s fault for leaving the kids with Scarlett, when he knows she s an undependable, opportunist who has not a brain in her head most of the time The way they blame Ruby for everything and how they treat her about it, is completely abominable The ending resolves very sweetly after Cliff and his Aunt the mayor take their heads out of their asses and Ruby swings a high profile wedding to jumpstart the town s economy Overall, a very cute and fast paced romance, with a slight thriller element to it But that ending just left a little bit of a bad taste in my mouth If you re looking for a quick, romantic read and you might enjoy it.VERDICT 3.5 5 Stars I received a print ARC of this book from a representative thanks the majority of the book, as it had a nice sprinkle of humour and sweetness to it I enjoyed both Cliff and Ruby and thought their characters were decently developed The weakness of this story was the plot, as several of the things with the twin swap just didn t make sense, and did not seem to be the safest option for Ruby I also found the ending a little weak All that being said, it was still a decent well written book, and if you put aside your practical nature for a fe 3.5 stars I enjoyed the majority of the book, as it had a nice sprinkle of humour and sweetness to it I enjoyed both Cliff with her twin sister in order to hide out for a few weeks Little does she realise that the game she played with Scarlett as a child wouldn t work out the way she thought as adults First she has to work on a ranch, having not ridden a horse in over a decade, and then she meets the local, and very sexy, very single Sherriff, with whom Scarlett has being having an on off relationship with.Cliff, the Sheriff, has his own problems After returning to his hometown of Sweetheart his career in Reno damaged after a less than appropriate relationship He liked Scarlett but realises that he is very much attracted to then in love with Ruby.Rest of the book covers about 2 weeks, whilst waiting to deal with Ruby s stalker which leads to a tense situation outside of town, and Ruby trying to make amends for putting the town s people in dangerThe romance is strong, involving two people who are resisting commitment for various reasons, whilst under pressure from Cliff s extended family to commit to somethingThe side issue of Sweetheart s faltering economy due to a fire the year before is a good subplot, and allows for an interesting finale and denouement What sex there is is sexy enough, without making too many people blush, however there is some appropriate language in these scenes, so be warned if you re not a fan of this kind of sceneI understand it s difficult to develop the characters of people who are not part of the story until the second half e.g Ruby s bosses at the casino, from where she s had to take a sudden break from , so I felt they were a little flat when they did arrive Wondering if Ruby, in talking to Cliff etc, could have expanded them out a littlesuch as why Earnestino apparently didnt back her up much to the casino manager at the time she reported the harassment Anyway, minor point, they were useful characters when they were needed in order to progress the romance between Ruby and Cliff Ruby McPhee, a Vegas casino manager, is being stalked by novel has a great plot with believable characters I found myself rooting for Ruby from the first page and wanting to knock some sense into Cliff and the town s people all at the same time In my opinion this book has it all a little mystery and intrigue and a whole lot of romance There are no graphic sex scenes or explicit language This is a great book to read for entertainment Disclosure I didn t really detract from the the story Then again, as I read on there were a fewinstances where the author s police unfamiliarity stuck out like a sore thumb The sex was okay, on the mild if a tad cheesy with word choice but the conversation afterward was totally or of place for me didn t seem credible to the couple The hostage negotiator wasn t credible to me Once again obvious the author doesn t know much about police work Also the sniper bothered me There was contradictory info The story was good kept me interested Just the obvious lack of police procedural knowledge took me out of the story every time It was a very sweet, heartwarming wrap up and I absolutely love the book overall I accidentally read them out of order and I m going to chase down the first two immediately This
