On the way to Hunsford, Elizabeth and Maria Lucas come across an old friend who is working as a governess as her father had recently died Unfortunately they see her treated badly, and so when Darcy proposes to Elizabeth she reluctantly accepts Darcy seemsin lust than in love and acts as so, though he does gradually change a little from his normal arrogant prideful self.Only two stars as I skipped through the sex scenes and rushed the last half. I love reading P P variations this one was really interesting in the sense that it brought our two characters together in a different way I like it just because I like my stories where the couple are together early on with some obstacles verses separation with misunderstandings or other people who try to come between the couple. The story gave you the way things were thought of in that time where woman don t have the rights they do now so I thought it was believable I ve read reviews that criti I love reading PP variations this one was really interesting in the sense that it brought our two characters together in a different way I like it just because I like my stories where the couple are together early on with some obstacles verses separation with misunderstandings or other people who try to come between the couple. The story gave you the way things were thought of in that time where woman don t have the rights they do now so I thought it was believable I ve read reviews that criticized the way she made Darcy and Elizabeth s character saying it wasn t written as Jane Austin intended I think we can all agree that when we buy any variety it will be different that s what makes it a variation I realize to some it ruins it but I like these different plots and angles To me it lets you relive the story with the characters we all love it doesn t disturb me if people don t talk the way they did for the time period I wasn t there so I guess I don t focus on that.Don t misunderstand me I don t appreciate the books I ve seen that are about vampires PP There is a line there I love the love story between Darcy and Elizabeth This book as I said wasn t bad but I did feel that the ending was too rushed Also I agree with another review that said the other characters in the book were neglected and left incomplete It is still a worthwhile read Nothing is ever perfect but this one isn t far from it @Free Kindle Ó Apprehension and Desire: A Tale of Pride and Prejudice ⛈ What if Elizabeth Bennet had agreed to Darcy s marriage proposal offered to her at Hunsford parsonage, sincerely thinking it was the best thing she could have done in her situation As his fianc e and later wife, can she fall in love with Fitzwiliam Darcy who is still very much arrogant, rude, and not reformed man Will she be able to look over her own prejudice and apprehension, and see a worthy man who loves, and desires her More like 2.5 stars, but I rounded down because of the premarital sex and for how lewd and graphic the sex and not quite sex parts were I ve read plenty of books with Elizabeth and Darcy sexytimes post marriage, preferably, because I can t imagine either of them departing from propriety so much , and even thedescriptive ones at least try to keep with an appropriate tone for these characters Darcy, to me, was completely out of character here. But I did like the concept for this story I l More like 2.5 stars, but I rounded down because of the premarital sex and for how lewd and graphic the sex and not quite sex parts were I ve read plenty of books with Elizabeth and Darcy sexytimes post marriage, preferably, because I can t imagine either of them departing from propriety so much , and even thedescriptive ones at least try to keep with an appropriate tone for these characters Darcy, to me, was completely out of character here. But I did like the concept for this story I liked Elizabeth seeing hearing about people she knew in reduced circumstances and that pushing her to accept Mr Darcy s proposal I liked that Darcy was truly arrogant in many circumstances and had to overcome it At a certain point, though, there wasn t really much conflict and story left There were some interconnected events related to Darcy s cousin, the viscount, and to Jane, but Elizabeth and Darcy s plot was pretty much resolved It would have been nice if those storylines could have offered something to the main plot rather than being tacked on.This was an easy enough read, but overall I didn t come out of it completely satisfied This story was ok There were some missing words here and there and some mistakes, but the author is not a native English speaker, like me, and I know how hard it is to express yourself in a different language, so I don t mind that very much It didn t distract me from the story I did find the ending rather abrupt, I wish she had just made it a bit longer Oh, and a masturbating Darcy is not something I want to read about All in all, it s not the best story I ve read, but not the worst either. Other than some glaring and irritating Americanisms this story is not badly written My main problem was the dreadful and borderline offensive portrayal of Darcy While you could argue that pre proposal Darcy is selfish and oblivious to the feelings of others, he still has a level of decency and is at all times the utmost gentleman Not so this Darcy, who is utterly repugnant in every way Selfish, ignorant, too forceful with his attentions even when Elizabeth rebuffs him , and has no respect f Other than some glaring and irritating Americanisms this story is not badly written My main problem very much But I must confess I can t see, no even in a million of years Darcy receiving in his own house the mistress of his cousin And the romance of Jane and his former tenant, so improper for that time.I would give the book 4 stars, but, these unrealistic things, for the period, killed a little the joy for me. 3.5 starsElizabeth Bennet takes on Charlotte Collins nee Lucas s philosophy about mistress, her employer, while on her way to the Hunsford Parsonage to visit with Charlotte Later following reflections on Anne s and her sister s, Amy s fates due to the lack of money when their own father died, Elizabeth begins to contemplate the chances of finding a good man to marry, maybe not so necessarily with whom to fall in love, but with whom to reach a contentment which she views in her friend s marriage Could it be that Charlotte has chosen the better path Governess, companion or, worse, mistress as is Amy s choice, do not appeal when she now considers her and her sisters realistic odds of meeting a suitable man.and falling in love while continuing to reside in Meryton society. So it is asober Elizabeth who when Mr Darcy proposes with his insulting words one evening with only an instant s thought says, Yes Now we read many times during the rest of this plot how she begins to realize how she hates this man, his disdain of others, his belief that he has gifted her with an opportunity other ladies would die for and even his shameful treatment of Wickham and his separating Jane and Bingley Many times Darcy observes her cooling in attitude towards him and knowing that she does not reciprocate his deep passions, looks for words and ways to convince her to continue in their courtship.Courtship Yes, Mr Bennet is not so sure he wants to give over his Elizabeth to this man, even with the note with which she provided Darcy to give to her father when he asks for Mr Bennet s permission and blessing on their marriage Mr Bennet demands a courtship take it or leave it So, courtship it is.Darcy finds that his greatest weapon seems to be Elizabeth s own passions And he can t seem to control his when alone even for a moment A hallway, a country walk or even here I can t swallow the happening when he is able to sneak past servants to gain access to her bedroom at Longbourn provide times when a kiss, a caress push him over the edge of his control and give Elizabeth glimpses of a side to marriage she has known little of in her view of marriages around her.Elizabeth arrives at Pemberley, meets Georgiana and views Darcy as a master and as a brother on his estate Lydia s story is as it is Lord and Lady Matlock s family play a large role while Mrs Bennet s and Mr Bennet s relationship and advice to Elizabeth have a different slant than that in canon In an added change to the story, Darcy s purchase of property in Meryton brings another little surprise to the story. As Elizabeth reaches points during which she confronts Darcy with his faults and he makes amends Bingley reacts with less enthusiasm and ardor than we or Jane would wish And so another Bennet sister has to make a decision about what she wants and what is possible for her There is an epilogue. While this book definitely needs editing and seems to be a rough draft many times, I did enjoy reading of a Darcy so wrapped up in having Elizabeth in his life and in his bed that he goes out of his way to find opportunities to court her, to convince her, to make her fall in love as deeply as he Apprehension and Desire starts with Elizabeth and Maria journeying to Kent to visit with comes to the amorous scenes, so I wouldn t recommend it for a purist, or someone who likes a clean read It didn t bother me, though, and my rating is not effected by it.I did find that there were some typographical errors and a few spots where there were alternate words, such as he him, and a few spots where I wasn t sure of the passage of time, or references to events that happened off scene but were only casually mentioned It caused me a few times to go back to see if I missed something With another read over with an editor those would be caught.I was very excited to read this novel, my second of Wegner s, and I was not disappointed
